Monica Kodakandla, MD, is a board-certified physician specializing in pediatric hospital medicine. She practices as a pediatric hospitalist at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center in Houston. Dr. Kodakandla delivers comprehensive inpatient care to children with a variety of acute, chronic, and medically complex conditions. She is dedicated to evidence-based, family-centered care and collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to support her patients and their families.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in Galveston and completed her pediatric residency training at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Kodakandla is board-certified in general pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Her clinical interests extend beyond patient care to include community health, advocacy, and trainee well-being. She co-chairs the community resources workgroup within UTHealth Houston’s Pediatric Population Health Initiative, promoting stronger links between inpatient teams and community services. In addition, she serves as director of resident well-being and resiliency, leads the Community Health and Advocacy in Pediatrics (CHAP) rotation, and directs the Community Action Poverty Simulator, guiding trainees in addressing social determinants of health and leveraging community partnerships.
In her academic role as assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at McGovern Medical School, Dr. Kodakandla mentors medical students and residents, emphasizing scholarly pursuits and community-responsive practice. Her educational scholarship spans multiple domains, including burnout prevention, curriculum development, and experiential learning in advocacy. She is actively involved in educational research and has presented her work at national conferences such as the Pediatric Academic Societies conference and the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Conference.
