Biography

Vinay Prabhu, MD is an accomplished pediatrician and assistant professor of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Prabhu specializes in community and general pediatrics, serving as assistant medical director at UT Kids Place Pediatrics Clinic at Texas Medical Center. Prior to this he served as medical director at UT Physicians Greens Pediatrics Clinic.

Dr. Prabhu earned his MBBS from Terna Medical College in Mumbai, India, and completed his pediatric residency and chief residency at New York Medical College – Metropolitan Hospital Center. He has held academic appointments at both New York Medical College and UTHealth Houston, where he has been a dedicated educator, mentor, and clinician since 2018. He was also the associate program director of the pediatrics residency program at New York Medical College – Metropolitan Hospital Center. Dr. Prabhu’s clinical focus includes primary care pediatrics, with an emphasis on preventive care, management of acute illnesses, newborn health, and continuity of care for underserved populations. He plays an integral role in medical education, mentoring medical students and residents, and delivering core pediatric lectures.

A passionate advocate for child health equity, Dr. Prabhu leads a nationally recognized randomized controlled trial evaluating the impact of produce prescriptions on pediatric obesity. He serves as co-investigator on a $1 million HUMANA Foundation-funded grant that supports this initiative, providing fresh produce and nutrition education to underserved families. Board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Prabhu is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Texas Pediatric Society. His outstanding contributions to education have been recognized with multiple Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards from McGovern Medical School.
