Biography

Natalia N. Sanchez, MD, FAAP is an assistant professor of community and general pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. A board-certified physician in both internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Sanchez brings decades of diverse clinical experience to her role, with a strong commitment to underserved populations and academic medicine.

She earned her BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Texas Woman’s University, graduating summa cum laude, and completed her medical degree at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, then called The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. She went on to complete a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Sanchez has held various clinical and leadership roles. Currently she is the medical director and lab director at UTHealth Houston’s Student Health and Counseling Services. Her clinical work spans outpatient care, minor surgical procedures, and, in the past, specialized services for refugees and vulnerable populations. She has also served in global health settings, including with Médecins Sans Frontières in Uganda. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Sanchez is actively involved in university governance and public health initiatives. She chairs the UTHealth Houston Safety Council and has contributed to numerous institutional policies and student health programs.

Her community service includes leadership roles with the MD Anderson YMCA, and she is founding president of the nonprofit Friends of Moody Park. She has served as a dedicated mentor and educator, having precepted students from Baylor College of Medicine and other institutions.

Dr. Sanchez is a speaker on topics ranging from global health to plant-based nutrition and has been featured in national media for her advocacy on health care access and wellness.
