Biography

Theodor Uzamere, MD, MHS, is a native of Stone Mountain, GA, and of Nigerian descent. Dr. Uzamere earned his BS from Morehouse College, where he was a Dr. John H. Hopps, Jr., Department of Defense Research Scholar and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Scholar, conducting research in Dr. Wallace Sharif’s telomerase and aging lab at Morehouse College and in cancer biology at MIT’s Koch Institute in the lab of Dr. Tyler Jacks.

He received his MD from Meharry Medical College, where his commitment to underserved communities deepened through research focused on sickle-cell education done in Dr. Allison King’s lab at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Uzamere completed his pediatric residency, chief residency, and fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital. During fellowship, he created an educational flashcard tool for NICU families and led a randomized controlled trial studying its impact on parental anxiety.

Dr. Uzamere is the creator and host of Flowers for Algernon, a podcast that offers a reflective and affirming space for health care professionals to candidly share the triumphs and challenges of their journeys in medicine. The show aims to combat burnout by fostering connection, storytelling, and the meaningful act of giving guests their flowers — recognizing their contributions while they can still receive them. He is also the co-founder of FASCIA, a clothing brand supporting pre-medical students and criminal justice reform.
