Mary L. Wood, MD, FAAP

Biography

Mary Lauren Wood, MD, is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist with extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of gastrointestinal and nutritional disorders in pediatric patients. She is passionate about providing comprehensive care and truly enjoys getting to know the patients and families she works with to build lasting, supportive relationships.

Dr. Wood earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin before completing her Doctor of Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She then pursued her pediatric residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, followed by a specialized Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Prior to joining our team, Dr. Wood served as a private practice pediatric gastroenterologist in Cypress, TX, where she provided comprehensive care for both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients. Her expertise includes managing complex chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and eosinophilic esophagitis, utilizing the latest biologic therapies.

Dr. Wood is board-certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology by the American Board of Pediatrics. Her research and academic contributions include publications in journals such as Pediatric and Developmental Pathology and the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, focusing on topics like chronic gastritis, foreign body ingestion, and inflammatory bowel disease. She has also delivered numerous presentations and lectures on various pediatric gastroenterology topics to medical students and residents. She is an active member of professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Wood lives in Houston with her husband, their two children, and their two mischievous dogs. She enjoys staying active and loves spending her free time exploring the city with her family on the hunt for the best local coffee shops and ice cream places.
