Pediatric Residency Leadership Tracks: Growing leaders through mentorship, scholarship, and experience

A great start to the year

The Pediatric Residency Leadership Tracks kicked off the new academic year with its first Meet & Greet, following a successful recruitment season. The event brought together residents and faculty mentors to connect, explore shared interests, and build relationships for the year ahead.

Six tracks, dedicated mentorship

Residents can pursue one of five leadership tracks, each supported by dedicated faculty mentors:

  • Primary Care: Emma Omoruyi, MD, MPH; Sushma Hebbar, MD, CAQSM; and Amalia Guardiola, MD
  • Global Health: Kristi Tebo, MD; Guenet Degaffe, MD; and Wan-Hsuan (Sherly) Chen, DO
  • Advocacy: Sheela Gavvala, DO, FAAP, and Anjali Clauda, MD
  • Fellowship: Hunter Hamilton, MD
  • Hospitalist: Shivani Briggs, MD, FAAP, and Maha Kaissi, MD, MHPE, FAAP
  • Medical Education: Veronica Gonzalez, MD, FAAP; Ansam Hasan, MD; and Nikita Khetan, MD

Each track provides close faculty mentorship, individualized career development, and meaningful scholarly work with opportunities for dissemination at the local, regional, and national levels—all integrated into a 24-month curriculum.

Learning beyond residency

Residents also participate in immersive experiences tailored to their interests, including:

  • Legislative advocacy at the Capitol
  • Global Health Supper Club
  • Physician Educator Certificate Program teaching certificate
  • Fellowship mock interviews
  • Regional and international Global Health rotations

These experiences allow residents to translate their interests into meaningful scholarship, leadership, advocacy, and career development.
