Biography

Raymond Morales, MD, PhD, MS, is a highly accomplished cardiac intensivist and assistant professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Born and raised in the South Bronx, Dr. Morales developed an early interest in engineering and biomedical science. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and completed a dual doctorate at the University of Illinois, earning an M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also holds an M.S. in Clinical Research from Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. Morales completed his pediatric residency at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, followed by a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center. He subsequently completed advanced fellowship training in cardiac critical care at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and pediatric cardiac intensive care at Nicklaus Miami Children’s Hospital. He is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology and holds certifications in PALS, ACLS, and BLS.

Dr. Morales’ clinical interests center on caring for patients with complex congenital cardiac malformations and advancing access to high-quality care for marginalized populations. His research background includes work at Columbia University and MIT, where he contributed to studies involving muscle fatigability, tumor suppression, and heart failure. He is a published author with numerous research publications and a book chapter addressing topics in pediatric cardiology and critical care.

Actively involved in professional organizations, Dr. Morales is a member of the Latino Medical Student Association, where he previously served as National President, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has received multiple awards and scholarships recognizing his excellence in service, professionalism, and research. Dr. Morales is fluent in English and proficient in Spanish, with basic proficiency in French.
