James Perucho, MD

Biography

James Perucho, MD, is an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Perucho earned his medical degree from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, completed his pediatric residency at Cohen Children’s Medical Center at Zucker School of Medicine/Northwell Health, and completed his pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). During fellowship, he served as chief fellow and pursued advanced training in pediatric complex care, providing longitudinal outpatient care and inpatient consultation for children with medical complexity and technology dependence, particularly those with tracheostomies and long-term mechanical ventilation.

His clinical and research interests focus on children with medical complexity, chronic critical illness, and technology dependence. His work examines PICU readmissions, healthcare utilization, and caregiver experiences, with an emphasis on improving care coordination and transitions between intensive care, outpatient services, and home.
