Biography

Rebecca M. Beyda, MD, MS, is an associate professor of pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she serves in the Division of Adolescent Medicine. She is also program director for the Adolescent Medicine Fellowship Program and the MD/MPH Dual-Degree Program. Board certified in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, Dr. Beyda brings extensive expertise in adolescent health in a variety of clinical settings, including juvenile justice centers, and reproductive health care.

Dr. Beyda earned her BS in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University, her MD from UTHealth Houston (then known as The University of Texas Medical School at Houston), and an MS in Public Health Epidemiology from the same institution. Dr. Beyda completed her pediatric residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center and was a graduate of the Adolescent Medicine Fellowship Program at UTHealth Houston. Her clinical and academic leadership includes directing fellowship programs, mentoring medical students and residents, and serving as core faculty for the McGovern Medical School Pediatric Residency Program.

Dr. Beyda is widely recognized for her contributions to adolescent health care and education, having received multiple honors such as the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award for Pediatric Sub-Specialists. An active member of national and regional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, she has held leadership roles such as President of the Texas Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. Her research and quality improvement efforts focus on improving health care for justice-involved youth, sexually transmitted infections (STI) prevention, and adolescent reproductive health, with numerous publications and invited presentations at local, regional, and national conferences.
