The mission of the Division of Urology at the UT McGovern Medical School is to integrate current evidence based, patient centered care, cutting edge advances in Urology, and research science into the daily care of their patients. Their faculty work on a broad range of urological research, from magnetic field therapy for the treatment of interstitial cystitis to the use of stem cells in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. One of the most exciting projects is Dr. Steven Canfield’s research on gold nanoparticle technology developed at Rice University in the treatment of localized prostate cancer. His collaboration with Nanopectra, a local Houston company, focuses on ultra-focal treatments using photothermal nanoshell directed targeting. Ongoing trials are showing great success.
