Biography

Jerome Saltarrelli Ph.D., D(ABHI) grew up in a suburb of New Orleans and earned a B.S. degree in Biology from Southeastern Louisiana University. Following graduation, his thirst for knowledge grew and through a friend was introduced to the world of transplant immunology. After working in the Histocompatibility Laboratory at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana for a few years, Dr. Saltarrelli decided to pursue advanced degrees in Biomedical Engineering. During his studies, he was fortunate to find employment in the Histocompatibility Laboratory at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. In the fall of 2007, Dr. Saltarrelli was awarded a MSE and PhD in Biomedical Engineering. After graduation, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. Post-fellowship, he was employed as a lab manager in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University but a burning desire called him back to transplant immunology. In the winter of 2009, Dr. Saltarrelli began a Histocompatibility Director Training Fellowship, in Solid Organ Transplantation, at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School under the mentorship of Dr. Ron Kerman. In the winter of 2011, Dr. Saltarrelli continued his training at Baylor College of Medicine. After a few years, he began a Histocompatibility Director Training Fellowship, in Bone Marrow Transplantation at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr. Kai Cao. In 2014, Dr. Saltarrelli obtained board certification, Diplomat, with the American Board for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. In June 2016, Dr. Saltarrelli began employment as the Director of the Histocompatibility and Immune Evaluation Laboratory at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School/Memorial Hermann Hospital.
