Dr. Klara Sputova is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, specializing in breast cancer reconstruction. In addition to offering the full spectrum of options for breast reconstruction, she has specific expertise in microvascular autologous breast reconstruction.
Dr. Sputova’s journey began at the University of California, Berkeley, where she pursued her undergraduate education and majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology. During her time there, she found true fulfillment as a research associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, delving deep into the study of the microenvironment’s impact on mammary stem cell fate decisions within the challenging contexts of aging and breast cancer.
Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Sputova embarked on a remarkable academic path, attaining her Medical Doctor and Master of Public Health (MD/MPH) dual degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Her dedication and passion carried her to the next stage of her professional development, where she took on a residency in Integrated Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Recognizing the importance of specialization, Dr. Sputova sought further expertise through a fellowship in Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the internationally renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her commitment to excellence and patient care led her to her current role as a valued member of the faculty in the Division of Plastic Surgery at UTHealth Houston.
While Dr. Sputova’s professional life is undeniably fulfilling, she also embraces joy and adventure beyond the surgical room. Her free time is spent exploring the wonders of the world through travel, engaging in invigorating water sports, and embarking on exciting adventures with her beloved dog, Bella.
