Biography

Dr. Ferguson earned a BA in Literary Studies with a minor in philosophy from the University of Texas at Dallas, then completed her medical school education, general surgery residency, and fellowship in abdominal wall reconstruction at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she is now an Assistant Professor of Surgery. During surgery residency, she dedicated two additional years to research, during which she earned a master’s degree (MS) in clinical research. She is interested in the ways in which surgery affects vulnerable patient populations, and her research focuses on healthcare economics, appendicitis, hernias, surgical site infections, and patient-reported outcomes in surgery. She received a K12 award from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences to support her research.
