Admission Criteria

Purpose: To specify physiologic criteria for appropriate patient triage to admission level of care.

  • Any nursing or respiratory intervention that requires a frequency less than Q2H (Q1hr or Q30min).
  • Need for Mechanical Ventilation
  • Trach collar ≥60%
  • Vapotherm >60%
  • ICP monitoring
  • Continuous IV drip sedation or analgesics (Ketamine analgesia okay in IMU)
  • Titratable vasoactive drips
  • CPR within 24HRS
  • CRRT
  • Uncontrolled FBG requiring STICU sliding scale
  • Bedside procedures requiring sedation.

*All admissions require physician to physician handoff prior to accepting patient*

  • Any nursing or respiratory intervention that requires a frequency b/t 2-4H.
    *exception:  Free Flap Protocol
  • Continuous pulse oximetry (airway edema, new post-op trachs)
  • Oxygen Requirement
    * ≥5L/min NC
    * ≥40% facemask
    * Trach collar >30% and ≤60%
    BIPAP up to 100% with ABG improving
  • Cardiac monitoring
  • Arterial or CVP monitoring

  • Cardiac monitoring via telemetry holter monitor.
  • Oxygen Requirement
    * ≤5L/min NC
    * Trach collar ≤30%
    * <40% facemask O2
    * CPAP at night with history of OSA
