Request for Cardiopulmonary Bypass PRIOR to arrival in the Main OR
Trauma Attending to CV Attending On Call – if the need for surgical assistance is recognized in the ED, the Trauma Attending will directly call the CV Surgery Attending en route to the Trauma OR. CV Surgery Attending will notify on-call CV Surgery fellow or resident.
Trauma Attending or Chief Resident notifies Main OR Charge (x47916) of request for CV Perfusion group stat during case posting. Refer to: UT Perfusion: Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Call Schedule (available via OR control (x44042))
Main OR Charge Nurse delegates person (Surgical Technologist) to assist with the transport of circulatory support equipment (located in the Main OR Perfusion Storage Room) into the OR while awaiting arrival of designated perfusionist.
Main OR Charge Nurse (x47916) and HVI OR Charge Nurse (x48224) communicate to send Cardiac OR Nurse/Surgical Technologist (along with designated instruments) to the Trauma OR, if available.
Request for Cardiopulmonary Bypass AFTER arrival in the Main OR
If the need for surgical assistance or bypass is recognized intra-operatively, the Trauma Attending delegates to the OR circulating nurse to have Main OR Charge Nurse (x47916) call CV attending and CV Perfusion group stat.
Main OR Charge Nurse will call CV Attending and CV Perfusion group with request for STAT circulatory support in the Trauma OR. Refer to: UT Perfusion: Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Call Schedule (available via OR control (x44042))
Main OR Charge Nurse delegates person (Surgical Technologist) to assist with the transport of circulatory support equipment (located in the Main OR Perfusion Storage Room) into the OR while awaiting arrival of designated perfusionist.
Main OR Charge Nurse (x47916) and HVI OR Charge Nurse (x48224) communicate to send a Cardiac OR Nurse/Surgical Technologist (along with designated instruments) to the Trauma OR, if available.
