Emergent Pediatric Orthopedic Consult Criteria

Purpose: The purpose of this guideline is define the type of pediatric patients that require an emergent orthopedic consult and should be seen within 30 minutes from consult.
Procedure
Any pediatric patient presenting with any of the following conditions should have an emergent pediatric orthopedic consult placed. Orthopedic surgeon must be at beside within 30 minutes of request for the following conditions:
- hemodynamically unstable, secondary to pelvic fracture
- suspected extremity compartment syndrome
- fractures/dislocations with risk of avascular necrosis (e.g., femoral head or talus)
- vascular compromise related to a fracture or dislocation
- trauma surgeon discretion
- traumatic amputations above wrist or ankle
