Orthopedic STAT Consults
Original Date: 07/2022
Purpose: To clarify Orthopedic STAT consult procedures
Patients with the following injuries must be evaluated by a member of the Orthopedic surgery team within 30 minutes of consultation:
- Hemodynamic instability secondary to pelvic fracture
- Suspected compartment syndrome with associated extremity fracture
- Femoral head or talus dislocation with inability to reduce
- Pulseless extremity despite reduction of fracture/dislocation
- Spine injury with neurologic deficit (when on call for spine)
- Trauma surgeon (faculty) discretion
Please call 4-BONE (4-2663) and say “I have a STAT Ortho consult” and provide patient location, diagnosis, and medical record number.
Background
The 30-minute evaluation of the above listed injuries is mandated by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (criteria 5.21) to maintain level 1 trauma center verification.
