Biography

Dr. Irvin Sulapas is an Associate Professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He is core faculty for the Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship and Medical Director for the Master of Athletic Training Program at University of Houston.

Dr. Sulapas is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Sulapas received his Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at Ross University. Dr. Sulapas completed his family medicine residency training at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX, where he also served as Chief Resident, then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the same institution. He also completed a faculty development fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as faculty prior to joining UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Sulapas’ clinical interests are concussion management, endurance sports, exercise prescription, injury prevention, and musculoskeletal injury management.

Dr. Sulapas is a team physician for the Houston Dynamo FC, University of Houston, University of St. Thomas, and USA Rugby. He also serves as one of the medical captains for the Chevron Houston Marathon, and a physician for the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas.
