Primary Care Career Focus Track
The Primary Care track is designed for students interested in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Psychiatry. Neurology and PM&R will also best fit here. Students planning on practicing OB/Gyn, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology in the community might also select this track.
Goal:
Aid students in transitioning from their role as medical students to practicing professionals.
Objectives:
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety, high value care, and bias.
- Choose strategies for self-directed, lifelong learning through various supplemental activities.
- Examine principles of multidisciplinary primary care to clinical scenarios through monthly didactic sessions.
- Integrate costs and efficacy into patient care management and decision making.

Guidelines:
- Students must complete and document 6 hours of Supplemental Activities between May 8, 2024 and Feb 28, 2025
- Supplemental Activities must be attended live (in-person or virtually).
- You must upload your activity documentation to the Canvas assignment within 1 week of completion to receive credit
- Viewing previously recorded lectures will not count for supplemental activities
- Morning Report will not count as a Supplemental Activity
- Primary Care CFT Orientation will not count as a Supplemental Activity
- Activities before May 8, 2024 and after February 28, 2025 will not count towards Supplemental Activities.
Options:
- PC CFT lectures – max 6 hours
- Monthly PC CFT Lectures can count towards all 6 hours of supplemental activities.
- Departmental Grand Rounds (UTH or away) – max 2 hours
- Please select departmental Grand Rounds early and add yourself to ListServ
- Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Pediatrics Grand Rounds do not needprior approval.
- All other departments need prior approval. Please provide the date, department, and topic/objectives when requesting approval.
- Clinical service activity – max 1 hour
- Must be healthcare related
- Please provide the date, activity name, and description when requesting approval.
- Attending a Conference – max 2 hours
- Must be primary care related
- Please provide the date, conference name, and topic/objectives when requesting approval.
- National HIV Curriculum Module – max 1 hour
