FIFA matches provide an exceptional environment for Sports Medicine Fellows to engage with the highest level of international soccer. These events feature elite athletes performing, offering a valuable setting to observe injury patterns, performance management strategies, and real-time multidisciplinary care. Fellows gain firsthand insight into the physical demands of world-class competition and the comprehensive medical support required to keep athletes performing safely and effectively.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the largest and most renowned rodeo events in the world, combining high-level rodeo competitions with concerts, livestock exhibitions, and community celebrations. For sports medicine fellows, it offers a unique clinical environment focused on managing injuries typical of rodeo athletes—such as blunt trauma, fractures, concussions, and soft tissue injuries—arising from events like bull riding, barrel racing, and bronc riding. The event spans multiple days and requires medical teams to deliver care in a dynamic, high-risk setting.

The Austin Texas Relays is a premier annual track and field meet that attracts elite collegiate, high school, and professional athletes from across the country. Held at the University of Texas in Austin, the event features a wide range of disciplines including sprints, hurdles, middle and long-distance running, jumps, and throws.

Utah Ski Rotation

This rotation is designed to be both engaging and educational, providing a dynamic learning environment where fellows can refine their clinical skills while enjoying the experience. You will work closely with faculty from Sports Medicine, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine backgrounds, gaining exposure to diverse clinical approaches and perspectives. A core expectation of the rotation is that you will independently interview and examine patients, then develop comprehensive treatment plans. The clinics frequently see fresh ski injuries, offering an exceptional opportunity to hone your musculoskeletal (MSK) physical examination skills in a real-world setting.

The UTHealth Houston Half Marathon & 10K is a premier community-focused race held annually in downtown Houston, featuring a fast, flat course ideal for personal bests and qualifying times. The event includes a health fair with free screenings and wellness resources, alongside post-race celebrations with food, drinks, and race photos. Combining competitive racing with public health and charitable giving, it fosters community engagement and supports regional health initiatives.

The Houston Roughnecks provide Sports Medicine Fellows with hands-on exposure to a professional football environment in a rapidly evolving league. Fellows gain experience managing a wide range of football-related injuries. The Roughnecks’ dynamic schedule and competitive play offer opportunities to develop skills in sideline injury assessment, emergency response, and return-to-play decision-making.
