Biography

Dr. Anneliese Gonzalez was awarded her medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1996. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Driscoll Medical School–Allegheny General Hospital in 2001 and a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston–Tufts University, where she was Chief Fellow. She maintains board certification in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she has taught and practiced since 2010. Her area of expertise is breast cancer, and she has published numerous research articles in peer-reviewed journals on this topic.

Dr. Gonzalez’s other passions are medical education and quality improvement projects. She completed the Health Educators Fellowship at UTHealth Houston in 2013 and the Clinical Safety and Effectiveness Course at UTHealth Houston/MHH-TMC in 2015. As a result of her efforts in the medical education field, she has been awarded the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award on multiple occasions and was accepted as a member of the McGovern Medical School Academy of Master Educators in 2015. She is also the Director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship.

Dr. Gonzalez is the Medical Director of the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center and participates regularly in community-based education and awareness events for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment as well as the role of genetic testing and counseling for patients with a family history of cancer. In this role, she has been a speaker at the Patient Care Conference and Patient Survivorship conferences of the UT/Memorial Hermann TMC Cancer Center for numerous years and has presented at events for patients sponsored by Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and other organizations. She has also given multiple television and radio interviews regarding breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention over the years.
