At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Compare rapid molecular panels (PCR-based) with traditional culture-based methods for the diagnosis and management of bloodstream infection (BSI) and potential advantages and limitations of each.
- Apply knowledge to interpret select rapid molecular panel results (PCR-based) to guide appropriate antibiotic management for treatment of bloodstream infections.
- Explain how rapid blood culture diagnostics can be used for antimicrobial stewardship.
