The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG) at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston has been highly committed to excellence in both research and education for over 30 years.
Our faculty carry out research in the biology, pathogenesis, and molecular genetics of a wide variety of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbes. The department is home to the Graduate Program in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (MID) and also offers the Medical Microbiology course taken by first-year medical students at McGovern Medical School.
On most Thursdays throughout the academic year, distinguished speakers are invited to the MMG department to give talks to faculty, students, and individuals from inside and outside the institution.
