Stroke Community Education & Outreach Program

Stroke community education and outreach is an important component of our stroke center.

Our activities provide education and promote awareness to patients and their families, health care professionals, the Houston community at large, disease support groups and civic organizations.

The Annual Yatsu Day Symposium

Annual CME approved educational conference highlighting a specific area in stroke geared toward physicians, physicians in training, nurses and physician assistants. The symposium typically is presented in the fall at the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center Hermann Pavilion Conference Center.

The annual event is named in honor of Dr. Frank Yatsu, professor emeritus of neurology, who died March 9, 2012. He was the second chair of the Department of Neurology, and a an internationally-recognized leader in stroke.

Annual UTHealth Stroke Festival of Life

This is a community event hosted by the UT Stroke Team focused on stroke awareness and education, promoting healthy lifestyles and providing health screenings to participants.

Community Outreach

Our program has a long history of participating in community outreach activities. We participate in many different health fairs and community screening events in and around Houston. We are also available to come to community centers, churches, synagogues and mosques to provide stroke education and stroke risk screenings.  These are organized by Dr. Anjail Sharrief and Nurse Practitioner Munachi Okpala.

If you are interested in learning more about our stroke education and community screening efforts or are interested in having stroke risk screening at your center, please contact us at the email address below.
