Providers and researchers at UTHealth Houston Neurosciences are leaders in bringing innovations to the field of neuroscience, with a long list of firsts in the treatment of stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, neurotrauma, brain aneurysms and other complex neurological conditions. In affiliation with Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, our academic teaching hospital, UTHealth Houston Neurosciences offers one of the largest neurosurgical caseloads in the United States, with more than 4,000 surgical cases per year. This permits a significant resident operative experience beginning at postgraduate year 2. Residents at all levels typically operate four days a week, with one day spent in a subspecialty clinic specific to their rotation. The technology they use includes intra-operative robotics, stereoencephalography (SEEG), computer-assisted surgery, and the Leksell Gamma Knife®.

Residents and fellows in the Department of Neurology gain a strong foundation in diagnostic neurology. We combine the best aspects of traditional neurology education with an emphasis on information gained from the physical exam and the most advanced diagnostic technology available. Residents practice in renowned programs at Memorial Hermann-TMC. The Comprehensive Stroke Center is a site for landmark clinical trials that are based out of UTHealth, and the Level 4 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is where epileptologists use magnetoencephalography (MEG) and other cutting-edge technology to evaluate patients.
We offer a Neurocritical Care Fellowship Training Program for applicants who are board certified or eligible in neurology, emergency medicine, anesthesia or internal medicine. We also offer a one-year fellowship track for eligible candidates who have completed postgraduate training in neurosurgery, medical critical care, anesthesia critical care, or surgical critical care. Fellows provide care for patients with acute neurological injuries at the 200-bed Memorial Hermann Red Duke Texas Trauma Institute, one of only two Level I trauma centers in the area and one of the busiest in the nation.
