Dr. Jonathon Cavaleri is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, with a special interest in deep brain stimulation, MR-guided ultrasound treatments for movement disorders, surgical management of facial pain, and surgical management of epilepsy.
A native of Aspen, Colorado, Dr. Cavaleri completed his undergraduate education at the University of Colorado Boulder and received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed residency training in neurological surgery at the University of Southern California, where he received the 2025 Michael L.J. Apuzzo Prize for Creativity and Innovation awarded by the Department of Neurosurgery. He went on to complete a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He joined the faculty at UTHealth Houston in 2026.
Dr. Cavaleri has co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, editorials, and case reports. His research interests include understanding the neurophysiologic mechanisms governing motor processing, alternate stimulation paradigms in deep brain stimulation, and neuromodulation for visual restoration. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
His patient care philosophy emphasizes open communication, accountability, and compassion. He understands the value of maintaining effective communication with patients, their families, and other healthcare providers. He knows the challenges patients with neurological disorders face and does everything he can to help patients in all aspects of life.
Collaboration with Referring Physicians
Physicians at UTHealth Houston Neurosciences engage referring physicians in the care of their patients, keeping them informed about patient progress throughout the evaluation and treatment process. After a patient’s treatment, referring physicians receive a summary and a plan for follow-up. We encourage continued communication about each patient.
