Dr. Shirin Jamal Omidi is a board-certified neurologist specializing in the treatment of epilepsy and other seizure disorders. She has special interests in surgical epilepsy, intracranial EEG, and autoimmune epilepsy.

Dr. Omidi received her medical degree at Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in Iran and was recognized as best medical student of the year in educational and research activities. She completed residency training in adult neurology at Shariati Hospital at Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iran. She also completed a residency in adult neurology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. In addition, she completed research fellowships in epilepsy at University Hospitals of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 2018 and at McGovern Medical School in 2020. She went on to fellowship training in epilepsy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

During her training, she taught EEG courses in multiple sessions at McGovern Medical School, and in 2024, she was recognized with the Resident Teaching Award in the medical school’s Department of Neurology. She joined the faculty at UTHealth Houston in 2025.

Dr. Omidi’s research interests include autoimmune epilepsy and stereotactic EEG. She has authored numerous research articles published in renowned peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology; Journal of Clinical Neuroscience; Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry; Epilepsia; Seizure; Neurology; and Frontiers in Neurology. She has presented nationally and internationally.

Collaboration with Referring Physicians

Physicians at UTHealth Houston Neurosciences engage referring physicians in the care of their patients, keeping them informed about patient progress throughout the evaluation and treatment process. After a patient’s treatment, referring physicians receive a summary and a plan for follow-up. Our physicians encourage continued communication about each patient.
