Memorial Hermann Hospital Didactic Curriculum
The resident clinical experience is enhanced by a robust didactic curriculum that is based on the Council for Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) Educational Objectives. The curriculum includes protected time on Tuesday afternoons for obstetrics, gynecology, and specialty conferences. There is also a variety of hands-on anatomy labs and surgical skills labs that are conducted jointly with the LBJ program. Prior to the annual national Ob/Gyn residency training in-service exam, there is an intensive review course.
Some aspects of the didactic curriculum are:
- Gynecology case conference (weekly)
- Obstetrics case conference (weekly)
- Didactic lecture series based on CREOG objectives (weekly)
- Departmental Grand Rounds (monthly)
- Quality Assurance Meeting (monthly)
- Morbidity and Mortality conference (weekly)
- Journal club (monthly)
- Technical Skills Workshops (bi-annual)
- Pelvic Anatomy Lab (quarterly)
- Surgical robot training (annual)
[zilla_alert style=”grey”] Residents may attend other weekly/monthly conferences based on their clinical rotations. [/zilla_alert]
Daily clinical work rounds and teaching rounds are conducted in the clinical area and are not included above. These are focused on clearly written objectives, specific for each year of training, which are based on the current CREOG educational objectives. Goals and Objectives clearly delineate learning expectations in each competency that are expected on each rotation.
There is a monthly reading assignment designed to add to our residents’ fund of knowledge based on obstetric and gynecologic core topics. There are also hands-on laparoscopy and robotic surgery courses that our residents are required to attend during their training.
