Benefits
Hair transplantation can restore your youthful look by restoring a receding hairline, it is considered a permanent solution to hair loss
Treatment Areas
There are many areas that can be treated with a hair transplant
Surgery/Treatment Process
During a hair transplant, the scalp is numbed and hair follicles are harvested from the back of the scalp. There are two main techniques for hair transplantation. The first is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and the second is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). In FUT, a strip of hair is harvested from the donor area and then dissected into individual follicular units. These follicular units are then transplanted into thinning areas. In FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area using a punch tool and then transplanted to the recipient area. FUE leaves minimal scarring but can be more time consuming and require more sessions to achieve the desired results.
Am I a Candidate?
We recommend an in person consultation to evaluate the scalp and the areas of thinning. During the evaluation, we assess the donor area and the recipient area. Patients may also have other causes of hair loss that may not make them great candidates for transplant. A good history and physical exam can help us to make a recommendation and determine your candidacy for the transplantation.
Recovery Process/Downtime
We recommend taking a week off to recover from the transplant. You can have significant swelling post transplant that may extend down the forehead to the eyes. For this reason, we recommend taking some time off. After the week, the scabs over the recipient and donor area should have healed enough for you to resume your daily activities.
How Long do Results Last?
The results of a hair transplant are permanent, however, you may continue to lose your existing hairs as you age. We recommend concurrent medical management to maintain what you have in the recipient area prior to transplant but if your original hairs continue to recede, you may need another transplant.
Cost
The cost of a hair transplant differs based on transplant technique (FUT vs FUE) and number of hairs transplanted. We recommend an in person consultation to devise a patient specific treatment plan for transplant technique and number of hairs needed to achieve your desired look.
Risk/Side Effects
There are risks to hair transplantation just like any other procedure. They include bleeding, infection, scarring, numbness, unsatisfactory results, shock loss, poor growth of the hair follicles, need for subsequent procedures to increase density.
