Rhinoplasty in Houston, TX
A rhinoplasty is a procedure that is done to improve the nasal airway, improve your breathing and also change the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasties can be done for purely cosmetic reasons, functional reasons or to reconstruct the nose after trauma.
Benefits
Rhinoplasty can improve your breathing, open your nasal airway and improve the appearance of the nose.
Treatment Areas
A rhinoplasty targets the nose externally and also targets structures inside the nose such as the septum and the turbinates. For some patients, there may be underlying sinus issues as well, if that is the case, the sinuses can also be treated at the same time to improve breathing and function as well as cosmesis.
Surgery/Treatment Process
Rhinoplasty is done under general anesthesia. There are two broad approaches to rhinoplasty, one is endonasal and the other is open. In an endonasal approach, all the incisions are made on the inside of the nose. In an open rhinoplasty, there is a combination of endonasal and external incision. Regardless of approach, once the incisions are made, the septum is identified and dissected and the necessary refinements to the shape of the nose are made to improve function and cosmesis.
Am I a Candidate?
We recommend an in person consultation to discuss whether you are a candidate for rhinoplasty. During the consultation process, your photos will also be reviewed and cosmetic concerns addressed.
Recovery Process/Downtime
We recommend taking 1-2 weeks off of work or school to heal from a rhinoplasty. It will take about 6 weeks for most of the swelling in the nose to subside. We recommend limiting any strenuous activity or heavy lifting during recovery.
How Long do Results Last?
Rhinoplasty results can last a lifetime. There can be some scarring and changes to the nose over time that may necessitate a revision but in general, the changes that we produce in rhinoplasty will last many years.
Cost
The cost of a rhinoplasty will differ based on whether this is a primary rhinoplasty or revision, if there are functional issues to address, part of the rhinoplasty may be covered by insurance. We recommend a consultation to determine what type of rhinoplasty you need to assess the cost.
Risk/Side Effects
There are risks to rhinoplasty just as there are risks to any other procedure. They include bleeding, infection, septal perforation, spinal fluid leak, continued nasal obstruction or scarring that can lead to cosmetic problems over time.
