Biography

Claire Narvaez Singletary, MS, CGC, is program director of the Genetic Counseling Program at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, a role she has held since 2006. She is board-certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, maintaining continuous certification since 1999.

Claire earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Furman University and her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University. Over her 25-year career, she has become a leader in genetic counseling education and clinical practice. Her current leadership roles include President of the Genetic Counselor Educators Association (2024–2026), and she previously served as President of the Texas Society of Genetic Counselors (2010–2013).

Her contributions to education have been recognized with the University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award (2021) and multiple institutional honors, including the Very Highest Commendation and Outstanding Service awards from MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School. Her professional interests include prenatal genetic counseling, emerging genetic testing technologies, risk perception, and the psychosocial aspects of patient care.
