Veronica M. Gonzalez, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified physician specializing in pediatric hospital medicine. As an associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, she cares for children with a broad range of acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center. Dr. Gonzalez is deeply committed to delivering evidence-based, family-centered care and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes for her young patients.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and completed her pediatric residency at UTHealth Houston as well. She is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and holds Pediatric Hospital Medicine certification. Dr. Gonzalez also maintains Pediatric Advanced Life Support credentials.
Her clinical and academic interests include newborn care, breastfeeding support, management of medically complex pediatric patients, and telehealth. She specializes in integrating patient- and family-centered approaches into routine inpatient care.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gonzalez is passionate about medical education. She is an alumnus of the Health Educator Fellowship Program at McGovern, where she honed her skills in curriculum development, assessment, and feedback strategies. Through various roles, including pediatric associate clerkship director, director of the career focus track, and co-director of the medical education resident track, she mentors medical students, residents, and fellows, guiding scholarly projects and fostering clinical teaching excellence.
Her commitment to education has earned her numerous accolades, including Physician Partner of the Month (2017–18), the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award (2018, 2021, 2023), recognition as a Positive Education Role Model (2020), induction into the McGovern Academy of Master Educators (2021), and the John P. and Katherine G. McGovern Master Teacher Award (2023, 2024).
