Sonia Estrada retired from UTHealth on August 30. Please see her farewell message below and join Dr. Aitken and all the Department leaders in thanking Sonia for her hard work and dedication to the Department of Pediatrics Human Resources.

Silvia Flores will continue to be available to support your HR needs during this transition and, effective September 1, Maaria Farooqi joined the Department HR team. Sonia leaves big shoes to fill, and the administrative team will do our very best to ensure that our HR processes continue to move smoothly.

Message from Sonia:

As I prepare to embark on this new chapter of retirement, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Working alongside such a dedicated, talented, supportive group of individuals has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.

Over the years, we’ve shared countless memories, overcome challenges and celebrated successes together. I’ve been truly inspired by your commitment and teamwork, and I’ve cherished the camaraderie that has made our workplace feel like a second home. 

While I’m excited about the adventures that lie ahead, I will certainly miss our daily interactions and the sense of community we’ve built. I have every confidence that you will continue to achieve great things and drive Pediatrics to new heights. 

Thank you for the wonderful experiences, the laughter and the friendship. I look forward to hearing about all the amazing accomplishments that are yet to come.
