The Department of Pediatrics Team is frequently called upon to share insight and expertise with the community through various media platforms. Here are the media highlights from last month:

  • Rebecca Beyda, MD, Associate Professor in Adolescent Medicine, was interviewed on the News 2 Houston livestream about how children going back to school can beat the heat.
  • Michael Chang, MD, Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases, was interviewed on the Growing Up in America podcast about viral illnesses and how to keep kids healthy as children across the country head back to school. Segments of this interview were also featured on the Children at Risk radio broadcast.
    • Dr. Chang joined a subsequent episode of Growing up in America to talk about the “tripledemic” of RSV, flu, and COVID-19 among children.
  • Sandy McKay, MD, Associate Professor and Division Chief in Community & General, was quoted in a Yahoo! Life story about how to talk to kids about gun violence.
  • Zoabe Hafeez, MD, Associate Professor in Pediatric Hospital Medicine, (pictured above) was interviewed by the Houston Chronicle about his study that found Houston children are at greater risk of road dangers in neglected areas.
  • Kevin Rix, PhD, MPH, jointly appointed Assistant Professor with the School of Public Health, was highlighted on UTHealth Dallas School of Public Health social media for his research highlighting key factors that influence fatal and non-fatal drowning in children.
