Biography

Hunaid Gurji, DO, PhD, MS, is a board-certified pediatric hospitalist with advanced training in osteopathic medicine, integrative physiology, and bioengineering. He currently serves as an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Dr. Gurji provides inpatient pediatric care at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and Memorial Hermann Katy. His clinical expertise spans the management of acute, chronic, and medically complex pediatric conditions.

Dr. Gurji earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and PhD in Integrative Physiology from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He also holds a Master of Science in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his pediatric residency at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. His clinical approach emphasizes evidence-based, family-centered care with a strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration to promote optimal patient outcomes. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Gurji is well-equipped to serve Houston’s diverse pediatric population.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Gurji is actively involved in academic scholarship. He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and has received recognition for his contributions to translational research in physiology, including work on fluid resuscitation models. A committed educator, Dr. Gurji mentors pediatric residents and fellows at UTHealth Houston and family medicine residents at Memorial Family Medicine Residency, where he also serves as site director. He supports scholarly activity, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects, playing an integral role in both clinical service and academic training within the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
