The Texas Pediatric Society held their annual meeting on Saturday, October 26, and the Department of Pediatrics was extremely well represented.
Melissa Kwan, MD, was selected as the Early Career Physician of the Year in recognition of her exceptional leadership and outstanding contributions as an injury-prevention advocate to protect children and families in Texas. Dr. Kwan received her award during the luncheon on Saturday.
Later that day, a stellar group of Pediatrics Residents competed in the Jacobi Jug — and basically swept the entire competition! Congratulations to:
Jibran Muhammad, Med-Peds PGY-3
Samuel Borer, Med-Peds PGY-2
Elizabeth Popp, Peds PGY-2
Michele Cabeza, Peds PGY-3
Coached by: Dr. R. William Chong, Med/Peds Hospitalist
The Jacobi Jug Competition is a fast-paced, interactive, Jeopardy-style competition for Pediatric residency programs in Texas. It is open to all residents across the state, grilling teams of two to four members on six key topics that physicians state they have a knowledge gap and including some discussion and education focused on these topics. The Jacobi Jug is named after the father of pediatrics, Abraham Jacobi, and held in conjunction with the TPS Annual Meeting.
