Marisela Trujillo Celebrates 29 Years of Service

Marisela TrujilloOctober 10, 2024, marked 29 years of service for Marisela Trujillo, Director of Management Operations at Gulf States Hemophilia and Thrombophilia Center (GSHTC). Marisela joined the Department of Pediatrics as the first full-time social worker on a staff of ten. After a couple of years in that role, she transitioned into administration. Gulf States has expanded to 32 staff members. “Some of my favorite experiences have been interviewing potential new staff and talking about our Program’s influence at the local, national and international levels because it reminds me that we have a great Program with staff that are dedicated. In addition, I believe I have helped our Program grow tremendously through the years to get us where we are today, and it has been through the hiring of great staff,” Marisela shared.

Because GSHTC is a lifespan clinic, Marisela met many patients as young children and has appreciated the opportunity to watch them grow in their careers and start families of their own. She recognizes this is a unique part of her job that not everyone gets to experience. Additionally, she is grateful for the opportunity to continually improve and cites this as one of the secrets to longevity here at UTHealth Houston. “After all these years, I can still learn new things and can feel challenged to want to do my best within our team while I work with patients, other staff within our department, University and similar programs to ours across the country. Seeking out opportunities for growth and learning are important. I believe you have to enjoy what you do, so invest time in the job and yourself. My previous and current bosses have been mentors and have provided support and confidence in my abilities.”
