Get to Know the Lactation Foundation
Did you know there is a team of Board-certified lactation consultants within the Department of Pediatrics? True story! These caring professionals offer personalized, private consultations to help every mom meet her breastfeeding goals.
Don’t be confused by the name — Lactation Foundation refers to setting a strong foundation for lactation, not accepting applications for grants. The center has six International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC), two of whom speak Spanish, available by appointment in person or on the phone from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. They also offer a wide range of services including:
- Prenatal Consultations
- Group Classes and Self-Paced Online Classes
- Breastfeeding Medicine for moms experiencing issues
- Support Groups — both in person and online

Clinicians can also refer in Epic with these simple steps:
- Search ‘Lactation’ in the orders field.
- Select ‘Pediatrics’ under Provider Specialty.
Step 2 is important because the referral defaults to OB/GYN whose lactation consultant only sees UT Physicians OB/GYN patients. The Lactation Foundation sees ALL patients without such restrictions.
