Maria Fermin Gutierrez, MD, is a double board-certified pediatric endocrinologist and pediatrician who completed her fellowship training at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Originally from Venezuela, she earned her medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and completed her pediatric residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York.
During residency, Dr. Fermin developed a strong interest in endocrinology, with a particular focus on childhood obesity prevention through school-based interventions. This interest deepened during her fellowship, where her research examined the impact of COVID-19 on the rising incidence of diabetes in children. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at both national and international endocrine conferences.
As a bilingual physician fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Fermin is passionate about providing inclusive, culturally sensitive care to diverse pediatric populations. She has a particular clinical and research interest in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as obesity, and is dedicated to advancing the field of pediatric endocrinology through patient care, research, and medical education.
