Friday, September 5, from 8 to 9 a.m., the residency program team will host the first Department-wide morning report in more than a decade. “We are bringing back an all-time favorite we lost when ACGME decided to modify resident hours about 14 years ago,” Residency Associate Program Director Monaliza Evangelista, MD, said.
PHM fellow Emmalee Holt, MD, and PHM assistant professor Doha Aboul-Fotouh, MD, are bringing this tradition back to this Department. “The purpose of this morning report is to promote collaboration and conversation between the divisions in the Department of Pediatrics. This will also improve resident education on interdisciplinary decision making through case-based discussion supported and modeled by faculty. This will also offer opportunities for subspecialty mentorship, fellowship recruitment, and faculty networking,” Dr. Holt said.
Who is invited? All clinical staff in the Department of Pediatrics — residents, attendings, advanced practice providers, etc. — are welcome to join. Subspecialty divisions: please send at least one faculty representative each week.
Is this mandatory? These meetings are mandatory for residents on site at CMHH, including those on subspecialty rotations.
How often will these meetings occur? Every Friday, 8 to 9 a.m.
Where are the meetings? Meetings will be held in the Hermann Conference Center (on ground floor) unless otherwise noted.
Questions? Contact Dr. Holt with questions, concerns, or if you’d like to present at the morning meeting.
Gabriel Anzueto, MD, FAAP, will lead the new Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Division.
The Department of Pediatrics is excited to announce the launch of our newest division: Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, led by Division Chief Gabriel Anzueto, MD, FAAP. This 11-member interdisciplinary team will offer comprehensive care to children with neurodevelopmental conditions such as, but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, ADHD, and intellectual disabilities. Housed at the Dan L Duncan Neurodevelopmental Clinic at the Children’s Learning Institute, this Division cements the strong connection between the CLI and McGovern Medical School for patient care and trainee experience.
Through her work with Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP), Associate Professor of Pediatric Hospital Medicine Veronica Gonzalez, MD, gathered substantial information on the pediatric workforce shortage and has presented her findings to several different groups. Dr. Gonzalez has recruited a team of faculty and staff to “explore best practices and prioritize initiatives that promote interest in pediatrics and its subspecialties, support learners through the Match and beyond, and advocate for system-level changes to support pediatrics as a discipline.” The group has thus far discussed ideas such as:
L-R: Maria Caldas-Vasquez, MD; Veronica Gonzalez, MD; and Sandy McKay, MD, finish up a hybrid meeting of the Pediatric Workforce Initiative in the Pediatric Chair’s Conference Room.
