Welcome Guliz Erdem, MD, division chief of pediatric infectious diseases
This spring, Guliz Erdem, MD, will join the Department of Pediatrics as professor and division chief of Infectious Diseases.
The Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is delighted to announce Guliz Erdem, MD, has been appointed Division Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Erdem joins us as a nationally recognized leader in pediatric infectious diseases with extensive experience in clinical care, research, education, and quality improvement. She currently serves as professor of pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and medical director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. In addition, she has held numerous leadership roles, including quality improvement lead for the division and elected positions on national committees such as the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Erdem’s academic career spans decades of significant contributions to infectious disease epidemiology, Kawasaki disease, antimicrobial stewardship, and emerging infections. She has led and collaborated on multiple National Institutes of Health and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute–funded studies, authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and served on editorial boards and national guideline committees. Her commitment to education is evident through her mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as her leadership in curriculum development and faculty training programs.
