Pediatrics honors, July 2026
Claudia Pedroza, PhD, professor with The Institute of Clinical Research and Learning Healthcare, performed statistics for a study that was selected as Best Overall at the 45th Annual Meeting of the Surgical Infection Society (external link): “Complex & Simple Appendicitis: REstrictive or Liberal postoperative Antibiotic eXposure (CASA RELAX) using Desirability of Outcome Ranking (DOOR) and Response Adjusted for Duration of Antibiotic Risk (RADAR): a multicenter Bayesian randomized controlled trial.”
LaTanya J. Love, MD, honored with Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumni Award (external link).
Department of Pediatric Surgery Chair Kevin Lally, MD, MS, was honored with the William E. Ladd Medal from the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Surgery, the section’s highest distinction.
Stephanie Tower, LCSW, was appointed to the Texas Health and Human Services Policy Council for Children and Familie (external link)s as the Houston (based) advocacy organization representative for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), representing families with ASD all across Texas.
Two teams from The Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) were recognized by the UTHealth Houston Employee Wellness program (external link) for their exemplary support of team well-being during the first half of FY26. CLI is also pleased to report their Harris County Accessible Childcare Training Supports program has been recognized by the National Association of Counties (external link).
Shannon Erhardt, MS, Wang Lab graduate student researcher, received second place for the Dean’s Research Scholarship Award. Shannon was also selected as a recipient of the Linda M. Wells GSBS Outreach Award.
