Justice-involved youth often have many physical and mental health needs. Though youth at the Harris County Juvenile Justice Center (HCJJC) receive medical and psychiatric care, continuity of care after release from HCJJC is crucial to help address chronic and complex health needs. Often, youth and their families report difficulty accessing care.
The Adolescent Medicine team has received approval to conduct a two-part study for families who would like to participate.
- Part one is a chart review of the medical needs of justice-involved youth, performed by our clinicians.
- Part two is the administration of 5-10 minute surveys to guardians to gain a deeper understanding of the barriers to accessing care.
We are currently seeking families to participate in a 5-minute survey about their experiences accessing health care. To participate, please contact Research Investigator Stephanie Nguyen, DO.
No personal identifiable information will be recorded. Information gathered will be utilized to improve connection with medical homes and mental health care. Guardians will be compensated with a $10 electronic debit card for participation in the initial survey and a $20 electronic debit card for participation in the follow-up survey.
