Overview
The Aquatic Safety Through Research, Association, and Linkage of data (ASTRAL) Study is a retrospective epidemiological study of drowning events in the greater Houston area, examining the events, risks, and outcomes.
Population of the study: All Houston-area drowning events from 2019 to 2024
Intervention: Retrospective epidemiological study of the outcome of drowning events
Control: N/A
Trial Information
Target Enrollment: Retrospective chart review of all admissions to the hospital for drownings or near drownings
Captured type of event, location, outcomes, demographics, and case factors with each event (i.e., age of patient, demographics, location of event, interventions made to patient, and outcome of interventions)
Funder: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Duration of Study: 3 years
