Clinical Training
Three years of progressive educational experience provide fellows with the essential skills that enable them to provide optimal care and consultation for pediatric patients. Clinical and technical training involves a structured curriculum and block rotation schedule that provides strategic teaching, research, and consultative experiences.
Inpatient Consultations
Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital (CMHH) is a 116-bed pediatric hospital that includes a 30-bed pediatric intensive care unit. CMHH was the first Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the Region and is in the busiest Level I Trauma Center in the country — designated for both children and adults — capable of caring for the entire family in the same facility.
Training includes participation in the evaluation and management of cases of suspected maltreatment victims and children at risk at CMHH. Because the Child Safety Division is affiliated with a wide variety of hospitals, facilities, advocacy organizations and community partners, fellows are assured a broad experience in the medical, mental health, legal, and public-policy aspects of child maltreatment.
Outpatient and Continuity Clinic
The CARE Clinic provides initial assessments as well as ongoing comprehensive medical care to child victims of abuse and neglect, as well as complete care for children living in foster care.
Training includes comprehensive medical and psychosocial services for child maltreatment patients and families at risk.
