Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship
Welcome!
The Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited, 3-year program that trains future clinicians, researchers and academicians in the complex field of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Our objective is to provide high-quality clinical experience, education and research mentorship to train future leaders. Core clinical experience primarily occurs in the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Heart Center Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Oncologic critical care rotations in the PICU at MD Anderson Cancer Center, rotations with Pediatric Anesthesia at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and trauma rotations in the ER at Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center (TMC) complete the core clinical experience.
In addition, there are numerous elective opportunities available in the various divisions at Children’s Memorial Hermann and Memorial Hermann–TMC. Educational experience is structured around a comprehensive didactic core curriculum and simulation-based curriculum. Research mentorship in clinical, translational and basic science areas relevant to critical care is available. There are also opportunities to obtain graduate certifications and Master’s-level degrees in Clinical Research, Public Health, Biomedical Informatics and Healthcare Administration at the various affiliate schools at UTHealth Houston.
Our faculty strive to achieve excellence in providing each trainee:
- Dedicated teaching and supervisory guidance to develop clinical skills necessary to become proficient in assessing and managing critically ill children
- Graded autonomy to develop leadership skills necessary to lead the multi-disciplinary teams in providing outstanding clinical care to the critically ill children and their families
- Encouragement and guidance to develop teaching skills necessary to educate resident physicians and medical students, as well as other health care professionals
- Research mentorship to develop research skills necessary to conduct research and complete a scholarly product by the end of fellowship training
