Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases goal is to excel in every aspect of patient care, education, and research related to infectious diseases. We seek to provide the highest quality of patient care with thoughtfulness and compassion. A vital part of patient care is the education of medical students, residents, fellows, other health care professionals, and scientists, as well as parents, children and adolescents. The Pediatric Infectious Disease faculty strives to motivate a passion for lifelong learning through education in several different settings and through a variety of media.
Our division provides inpatient consultation for children with unusual or severe infections, as well as assistance and management of infectious diseases and their consequences. Our general infectious diseases clinic offers outpatient consultation for children with a variety of infectious concerns. We also have a specialty outpatient clinic that provides care to HIV-infected children and adolescents from the Greater Houston area and beyond. All faculty members in the division are active in research, with areas of interest and expertise ranging from basic science laboratory-based research, infections control to multicenter clinical trials. Students at different levels of medical education participate on our clinical service and in our clinics with teaching that focuses on the diagnosis and management of pediatric infectious diseases. A number of division members have received teaching awards, demonstrating the importance the division places on quality teaching by our faculty members.
