Education
Overview
The UTHealth Houston McGovern School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics aims to provide excellence and innovation in training the next generation of pediatricians and sub-specialists through medical student, residency and fellowship programs. With more than 1100 members, the Department of Pediatrics is the biggest department at the 9th largest medical school in the country, situated in the heart of the Texas Medical Center and offers four top-notch Residency Programs and more than 13 Fellowship Programs in a variety of disciplines.
Our programs are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all trainees, in alignment with the UTHealth mission to “provide the highest quality education and training of future physicians for the state of Texas, in harmony with the state’s diverse population.” Because Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the US and our patient population reflects a rich mix of cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities, program leaders are dedicated to developing a diverse physician workforce that seeks to eliminate healthcare disparities through education and service to patients and surrounding communities.
The Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School is also committed to supporting educational scholarship and innovation among its faculty through the Educational Innovations Program, which supports projects relevant to medical education in pediatrics. Projects targeting pediatrics trainees at all levels are encouraged — medical student education in pediatrics, pediatric residents, and pediatric subspecialty training — to advance novel approaches in training the pediatric workforce. McGovern Medical School faculty with a primary appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the instructor, assistant or associate professor level are eligible to apply for up to two awards over five years.
