The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology in the McGovern Medical School Department of Pediatrics has a wealth of experience and expertise to offer both patients and trainees. The majority of our faculty trained here at UTHealth Houston and have, amid numerous options, chosen to remain here to invest in the next generation of endocrinologists. This longevity has enabled our team to develop deep roots in the Texas Medical Center — the largest in the world — and extensive connections that allow for inter-disciplinary, multi-layered care. It has also allowed this division to build a name for itself in the Greater Houston area and beyond, raising awareness about prevalent pediatric endocrine issues and innovative treatment, establishing our faculty as leading voices in the field.

Under the direction of Michael Yafi, MD, the Division has been able to expand to match the increasing demand from the diverse patient population. The five faculty and one staff physician see patients at Children’s Memorial Hermann and Memorial Hermann Hospitals, our primary teaching hospitals, as well as UT Physicians outpatient clinics across Houston, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, this team cares for underserved populations at Harris Health Clinics and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.

Since 1994, the ACGME-accredited Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program has provided excellent opportunities in clinical care, research and scholarly activities. The highly customizable program has been refined by its current leaders who were once fellows themselves. From private practice to academic medicine, this versatile experience prepares trainees to be successful in any setting.

To harness the power of collaboration, Dr. Yafi and the team have built valuable partnerships with organizations that drive results, including BreakthroughT1D (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, JDRF), Turner Syndrome Society, Texas Children’s Hospital and more. These important connections support the advancement of research and make prevention more accessible for more children, the ultimate goal.
