Biography

Dr. Cindy Jon moved to the US from Hong Kong when she was 6 years old.  After graduating McKinney High School in 1991, she received a Bachelors of Arts degree with a major in chemistry and a minor in art from Austin College in Sherman, TX in 1995.  She then moved to Houston to attend UT School of Public Health and received her Master of Public Health.  After graduating from UT McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston in 2000, she completed her residency in internal medicine/pediatrics in 2004 than a fellowship in pediatric pulmonary in 2007 at the same institution.  She is currently board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology, Sleep Medicine, and Internal Medicine.

She joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at UT McGovern Medical School in 2007.  Her devotion to academics has defined her role as a clinical educator.  As the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Pulmonary fellowship, Dr. Jon developed and amended the board review lecture series which has led to 100% board pass rate for all fellows who have graduated from the fellowship program.  As of 2022, Dr. Jon assumed the role of the Program Director for the Pediatric Pulmonary fellowship at UT McGovern Medical School.

With a strong interest in improving sleep in children, she developed the UT Pediatric Sleep Medicine clinic and established a collaborative sleep-centered program with the Pediatrics ENT providers.  As the first  medical director for the Memorial Hermann (MH) Pediatric Sleep Lab at Memorial City in 2009, she developed a formalized pediatric sleep program within the MH system with the capacity to provide polysomnography for medically-complex as well as healthy children.  Over time, she has expanded pediatric sleep services to other MH locations, including Sugar Land and North East.

Dr. Jon has received several awards regarding her clinical teaching and medical care.  She received the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award on multiple occasions, including 2009, 2010, 2014, 2017–2021.  Also, the graduating Pediatric Residents bestowed the Excellence in Professionalism and Humanism award to Dr. Jon in 2020.   She has been recognized by Houstonia Magazine as one of the “Top Doctors” in Pediatric Pulmonology as voted on by peers for multiple years, including, 2013, 2015, 2017–2021.

Dr. Jon continues to work diligently in developing clinical and teaching programs that care for children with respiratory and sleep disorders, enhance educational opportunities for learners, and foster career development for future Pediatric Pulmonologist.
